Testing... Testing... is this thing on?
You know, I really need to start having a consistent posting schedule, something to force me to publish or perish. *sigh* Well, writing now, at least. It's been an interesting few weeks. Two Saturdays ago, I watched the production of Romeo and Juliet by The Barnstormers. It was... interesting. They played it up as a comedy, not only in the extant sex jokes (and believe me... there are a lot of those in Romeo and Juliet) but also portraying the relationship of Romeo and Juliet as less a matter of two people in destined love, determined to fight fate and family for true love and more a matter of two emotional teenagers who like what they see in each other and firmly desire to get their rocks off. It was a very interesting presentation, although the fact that we were primed for giggles at the time of the death scene at the end kind of punctured the drama there. Our own closing weekends of Measure for Measure went well although the last night had far too many errors made during the production and there was an undercurrent of tension among a few members of the cast that makes me think that there may have been some rifts kept barely hidden under the surface. *shrug* Well, omelets and eggs, right? The cast party afterwards was fun, as always. I made diet herb chicken wings and they turned out well, although I think cooking them in a slow cooker left the meat a little too soft and tender (not to mention the bones... lemon juice and hours of soaking and heating left them at a consistently where it was very easy to bite off more than you wanted to chew or swallow). We had some absolutely stimulating conversation about Star Wars, ranging from our opinions on Lucas's directing and dialogue skills to the sociopolitical structures of the universe and whether groups like the Jedi, the Sith, the Republic, or the Empire could truly be seen as good or bad in the context of the movie. We even managed to get the oft-reclusive Kate, our host's daughter, into some of the conversation, which made me happy, because I always feel like we drive her off to her room with our raucous partying and no one should feel left out in their own house.
In other news, I locked myself out of my house Tuesday night. I'd had my keys out at work, because I was reading one of the documents on my USB stick during my lunch break, and I accidentally left the keys behind when I left work (my car keys are entirely separate due to an unfortunate incident a few years ago involving car keys getting locked into a trunk and needing my landlord to open my apartment door so I could get the spare keys). A few hours later, after having tutored two girls in the ways of D&D (no, I did not put on my robe and wizard hat), I came to realize my lack of keys. I called down to security at work and they told me that I was in luck, that my area was still open (we not only have keycard security, like most places, but individual areas have openers and closers authorized to lock up and open the place), so I rushed on down there. And the area was well and truly locked up. Well, the security people tried, but they didn't have the right codes to let me in. So, I slept on a chair in the lobby and started work really early the next day. Unfortunately, that was not the most comfortable way to sleep... Other than that, the week's been pretty alright. I had belly dance on Wednesday. I saw Watchmen on Thursday (the movie is comic book porn... even without the sex scenes. It's truly amazing, although I have no idea how well people who haven't read the books will understand what's going on). Did karaoke last night at the Greenville Inn (and found out that the cook knew I'd posted a review of the place online) with Stephanie. Today, I watched Wedding Crashers. Meant to watch The Notebook (the other movie I have on loan) but I plan to hit a karaoke place tonight and it was running too late. Eh, tomorrow, maybe after D&D. I'll be missing the first readthrough of Midsummer Night's Dream, but I had told the director that my Sunday afternoons aren't free (my group wasn't happy about me being gone these past few months and I'm bringing two new people in, so I can't just skip this one). ^_^ I'm Oberon, which I'm very happy about. Really looking forward to this show.
So... life in general. It's alright. I could use a girl. I could use a bit more direction in my life. But overall, I can't complain overmuch. Not, of course, that many would listen if I did.
