More Strange Dreams
I do not always like who I am in my dreams. It started with a dream vaguely based off of Dark Messiah: Heroes of Might and Magic, a game I've been playing through recently, involving a key that I could step back to earlier scenes and use. I was walking through the hallways and opening rooms, the last several of which seemed to be regular rooms (which I had a vague feeling belonged to my siblings) and I ran into some people in the hallways when I suddenly realized that they wer actively hostile to people like me (I think alien species, actually, albeit very human-like) so I started pretending to be one of them, somehow involving me becoming engaged/associated with one of the girls, much to the anger of her actual fiance. There were physical confrontations between the two of us when he decided to literally backstab me with some kind of pen-like object which apparently was poisoned. I disarmed him and threw the pen into his right calf before proceeding to quiz my companions about what the poison might be while trying to squeeze the blood out to rid myself of the poison. After the questioning proved fruitless, I walked back into our room and locked the fiancee in a thumb lock of some sort. I remember I hit him a few times before realizing that this would not be sufficient, so I took him off onto the balcony and threw him headfirst into the concrete to break his neck. And... I think I woke up briefly after that to find that I'd fallen asleep with my head pillowed on my arms and that my arms were numb and responseless (not an uncommon occurence for me, really) with me nearly rolling off the side of the bed while trying to free them, at which I heard a sarcastic voice say, "Oh, that would be wonderful, trying to explain two broken arms and a dislocated shoulder..."
I fell back asleep not long after that and found myself in a vaguely Grand Theft Auto-like game, possibly because I'd been playing Saints Row 2 recently (a very good game... except that the PC version doesn't run very well at all, even on their reccomended specs), which started with me in a world of canals. I remember looking at a boat whereupon a sidequest started where I was informed that this particular type of ship was my favorite sort and that I would enjoy driving it around. There was some oddity where I had to start the motor in the back and then run up to the front and throw the guy at the steering wheel off the boat to drive it. I was dashing in between boats when a warning came up inidcating that the boat was overheating and shortly after, it caught on fire and I bailed out using the Use key. Then... I wound up standing sightly out of the water and using the Use key to board the boat again except there was a girl on there and I remember there was some concern about targeting the right part of the boat so as to be able to actually activate it. I reboarded the boat and traveled back to the side of the canal, whereupon I ran into a girl who had long wooden sticks for arms (she was handicapped in some manner and it was necessary to use the sticks for walking) drawn in a very anime-esque fashion as a static image much like a renmai game. And then... I attacked her and it made perfect sense at the time even though I knew it was an evil thing to do. I'll omit the details, but suffice to say that I awoke sick to my stomach.
And, to borrow a line from the show, "And now I am awake". Well, really, I've been awake for a while now, been watching The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra to give myself time for the details of the dream to fade away. Yeah, it bothered me that much. I know it was just a dream, and one often plays strange roles in dreams, heroes and villains, but this one just affected me.
So, what does this have to do with why I've been so long in writing? Nothing really... just haven't felt terribly inspired. I've been in a few shows, been on a few dates. Ah... there was that thing with Cathy in the interim which just didn't quite work out. I got laid off at L-3 and will be working for Lone Wolf Development, fine purveyors of tabletop RPG applications such as their HeroLab software. As I understand it, I'll be working on their Tournament Ace product which helps people manage tournament setups for things like Warhammer and Magic the Gathering. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out. Ah, well, enough nattering. Back off to the rest of my day, right?
